Sharp and Japanese network KDDI have just finished putting the final touches on their all-new, environmentally friendly cellphone, which will not only be completely water proof, but can also derive up to 80% of it’s power from the sun.

The charging cycle basically works like this. For every 10 minutes the phone is left to charge in the sun, the user get 1 minute of talk time or up to 2 hours on standby which is pretty impressive.

Sharp has announced that the phone will be available in Japan starting in June, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted if this impressive piece of tech makes it’s way stateside.

IBM has just unveiled an all-new form of computer memory entitled Racetrack Memory. This new medium is looking to not only devour current hard drive and flash speeds, but become one of the most reliable forms of digital memory since it is static. Also, Reacetrack memory is looking to cost nearly 100 times less than the current hard drive and flash medium. This will mean more bang (processing power) for your buck.

“Data stored on racetrack moves around on a wire pushed by spiralling magnetics, unlike hard disks in which a motor-operated head, much like a record player, has to move to the data to read it. It’s those moving parts that make hard disks, invented by IBM in 1956, susceptible to crashing.”

This is just another example of how fast tech is changing and how future portable devices may some day exceed our current stationary computers today.

SCEA has just announced Trash Panic, an environmentally friendly puzzler coming exclusively to the PSN.

“A game that takes the puzzle genre and gives it an environmental twist, Trash Panic challenges players to dispose of the rubbish by arranging it strategically in a giant rubbish crate before it overflows. Players have to think quickly, dropping heavy rubbish on crushable items to compact it – or placing biodegradables together so that they rot – meanwhile, the clock keeps ticking and the tide of rubbish keeps advancing.”

Look for Trash Panic to hit the PSN later this Spring.
